The Witches

The Witches - Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake The main character is a little boy (whose name I can't remember) who just lost his parents. He goes to live with his Norwegian grandmother and she tells him stories about witches. REAL witches, who look a lot like ordinary women and therefore are hard to catch. These real witches hate children, and are known to kidnap them. A few weeks later, he goes on vacation with his grandmother in England. At the hotel, he stumbles across a meeting of real live witches! He hides and overhears their plan to get rid of all the children in England. Can he stop it? Or will the evil witches prevail?

When I was in third grade, my teacher read this book aloud to the class. I think that The Witches is a pretty good children's book. It was very original and I enjoyed it.
