Close to Famous is the story of Foster McFee. She lived with her mom in Memphis, until the mother's angry ex-boyfriend comes in the middle of the night and attacks Mrs. McFee. So Foster and her mom flee to the small town of Culpepper. Meanwhile, Foster forges on with her dream of becoming a professional baker. She meets new friends who also have dreams. Macon wants to make documentary films. Charleena Hendley, once a famous actress, wants to return to Hollywood. And Rayka, Foster's own mother, wants to be a headliner instead of a backup singer. This is a very touching story for middle-grade readers. I really enjoyed it, but while I recommend it, it is not one of my favorites or anything. So I give it three stars.
