This is the first Frances O'Roark book that I ever read. I read it back when I was in 5th grade, and I really liked it. Dovey is outspoken and proud and I really like her character. Dovey always speaks her mind and I admire that about her. Anyway, Dovey really dislikes Parnell Caraway because he treats Amos, her brother, like he is stupid just because he is deaf, and he is courting Caroline, Dovey's sister. So when Parnell is found dead, with Dovey in the room, immediately the town thinks she killed him. But she is innocent. So she has to get a a lawyer to help her out of this mess. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the ending was really surprising! I recommend Dovey Coe. Four stars.
