This is the sequel of Year of the Dog. Pacy has another exciting year. Two years after Year of the Dog, the Year of the Rat means changes- both good and bad. Melody and her family move to California and Pacy feels alone. Another Chinese family rents Melody, and the boy Dun-Wei goes to Pacy's school. Pacy pushes on with her dream of being an author and illustrator. Pacy must learn to find the beauty in change. Like the Year of the Dog, this is also based on the author's childhood experiences. In my opinion, this wasn't as good as Year of the Dog, but I still enjoyed it and recommend it to fans of Year of the Dog.
