Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin

Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin - Liesl Shurtliff I never really liked the original tale of Rumpelstiltskin. But I love this retelling.

I love Rump. He's a lovable and relatable protagonist. He's funny, clever, brave, but he also has flaws that make him well-rounded and more relatable. I also loved his best friend, Red. She's feisty and can stand up for herself and they make a great team. Some of the other characters, like Opal (the miller's daughter) and Rump's aunts, seemed a bit flat. But the strength of the two main characters makes up for it.

I liked this fairytale land where names and destiny are intertwined and have power. I also liked the moral that a person's choices and their decisions are more powerful than their "destiny".

I really enjoyed the fact that this a new and creative retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. Yet it stays true to the key elements of the original.

Five stars. A new favorite.
