Matilda

Matilda - Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake I actually saw the movie before reading the book. I was very happy when I learned that the movie was based on the book, because I liked the movie. The book was just as good, if not better, than the movie. This is the story of Matilda. Her parents are cruel and mistreat her, leaving her alone all by herself while her father goes to work and her mother goes to play bingo. Her father also shout at her for wanting to read and educate herself (which I thought was just awful. How could any parents be mad at their only daughter for being smart?). Matilda is very bright for her age. By the time she is in kindergarten (I think it was kindergarten, it could have been first grade. I don't remember), she can multiply double digit numbers in her head. She is very excited to start school. But her school has an awful headmaster: the former hammer thrower Ms. Trunchbull. She is cruel and mean and terrorizes the children (in the movie there is a scene where she picks up one of Matilda's classmates by her pigtails and swings her around, flinging her over the fence). Matilda has a nice teacher named Ms. Honey, whom the students love.
This story is about Matilda standing up to her cruel parents and the evil Ms. Trunchbull. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.
