A Curse Dark As Gold

A Curse Dark As Gold - Elizabeth C. Bunce A Curse Dark As Gold was not amazing, but good enough to get three stars.

I liked Charlotte, she was strong and I loved her devotion to StirWaters. She was a well-rounded and like able protagonist. I also liked the story. This is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin but I like this one better. Because the bad guy, Jack Spinner isn't just "bad"- he's a fairly complex villain and even though he's the antagonist, I felt sorry for him.

Here's what I didn't like; first of all, the beginning was slow. It was a tad boring, although things started to pick up when the villain was introduced. Also, the "romance" with Charlotte and Randall felt weird and unnecessary. First of all, she's only 16 or 17 years old, and she's getting married? And having babies? WHAT?!? And I feel like the romance was only there so Charlotte could have a son (like in the original Rumpelstiltskin where the son was promised as payment to Rumpelstiltskin). Overall, the relationship between Charlotte and Randall felt weird, unnatural and unnecessary.

There were a few things I didn't like, but I still enjoyed A Curse Dark As Gold.
